19. Efficiency top tip – proof read EVERYTHING!

Check important correspondence before you send it – do something else and come back to it. Sometimes the eye sees what it THINKS is there – not what is actually written.

Never, ever rely on the spell check! If your communication is important (and tell me what form of communication isn't?) then ensure you proof read it before pressing the 'send' or 'print' button. The problem is, when you have written it, the brain knows what you are trying to say and sometimes sees what it THINKS you have written, not what is actually there. Odd words may have been missed as your mind works faster than your fingers – so check and check again. Imagine missing out the word 'NOT' – such a small word can change the whole meaning of your message!
